The Denver Broncos aren’t playing for their playoff lives, and a loss would give them a better position in the draft order. Wouldn’t pure logic say that a loss is better for this team on Sunday?

Well, yes. And I even wrote about this earlier in the week. But the thing is, the Broncos also have lots to play for on Sunday. It’s their final game of the season, and beating Oakland could mean their rivals don’t get a first-round bye. Nor an AFC West title.

Also, the Broncos would surely like to at least finish with a 9-7 season. It would go to show just how great this team truly is. Without any form of an offense and with a brutal schedule, they’ll still have managed to finish with a fifth-straight winning season. That is impressive.

There is unfinished business for the Broncos this season. The 2016 season was a failure, but it’s part of being the Super Bowl champions. The league is out to get you, and their opponents played extra hard to beat them. It’s all part of the Super Bowl hangover, whether they like it or not.

This is a group full of guys with pride. This elite defense won’t play together forever, which is why Sunday marks an important time for the No Fly Zone. Their season may be over after Sunday, but it’ll be nice to close it all out with a victory.

After all, 9-7 seems a lot better than 8-8, right?
