Brian Banks getting used to tempo with Falcons
Rookie minicamp is in the books for Brian Banks, the most notable first-year player the Atlanta Falcons did not spend a draft pick on.
The Falcons gave Banks, 27, a shot when they signed him early last month. With the exception of a brief stint in the UFL last summer, he has not played organized football in more than 10 years after a five-year stay in prison for a crime he did not commit.
So, the rookie minicamp over the weekend in Flowery Branch, Ga., was the first chance for Banks to hget acclimated to some non-contact football moving full speed.
“It was real good today, to get out there,” Banks said, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “I’ve been in film for the last two weeks and to finally get a chance to get out there and finally put the knowledge that we’ve been putting on paper out onto the field was a really good experience for the first time.
“It was a really fast pace. I made a lot of good moves. I made some mistakes, so adjustments will be made.”
The Falcons used him primarily at middle linebacker. Banks said his football instincts are starting to come back. He’s got considerable ground to cover as a serious long shot to make the roster but he’s fully invested.
