Brandon Meriweather done for season with torn ACL

Brandon Meriweather’s season finally got going for the Washington Redskins on Sunday and then it was over.

The veteran safety will be placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL in his right knee that he suffered in a 31-6 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at FedEx Field, the club announced today.

Meriweather had missed the first nine games with a series of injuries to his left knee. He originally sprained two ligaments in Week 2 of the preseason at Soldier Field against the Chicago Bears. When he tried to return in October, he reinjured himself in pregame warmups.

Now, he’s injured the other knee and will be shut down with surgery forthcoming. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan called it a “freak situation” for a defense that was hoping Meriweather would be a big addition.
