Berkman not expecting trip to DL

Lance Berkman of the Texas Rangers, has been out since twisting his right knee when he slipped down a staircase on Thursday night, said on Monday he doesn't think he will need to go on the disabled list.

Berkman, who did not play over the weekend against the Cincinnati Reds, told ESPNDallas.com that he has been dealing with soreness in the knee, which has required surgery four times, all season.

"It doesn't tolerate trauma that well," said Berkman, who added that he is not overly concerned by the injury. "It hurts."

Berkman has played in only two of the Rangers' last nine games and is batting .198 for the last 25 games to drop his average from .306 to .263.
