Bennie Logan is unlikely to get big payday from the Philadelphia Eagles

Bennie Logan is going to get a pretty big payday this offseason. However, the Philadelphia Eagles are unlikely to be the team that gives him that big payday.

To value Logan, let’s look at Damon Harrison. Logan and Harrison are neck and neck when it comes to being the league’s best run stopper. Signing his most recent deal, Harrison signed a 5-year, $46,250,000 contract with a cap hit of around $9,250,000 per season. This season, Harrison was much better than Logan — who missed some games — but they are definitely the same caliber of player.

The Logan Effect

Firstly, do not judge Bennie Logan by his statistics. He is a disruptive force on the defensive line. Logan clogs up running lanes and gives other linemen the opportunity to make some big plays. For example, without Logan, Fletcher Cox registered zero sacks. However, when Logan was present on the field, Cox managed to get 6.5 sacks.

As per noted, Logan is one of the game’s best run stuffers. When the Eagles had Logan in their lineup, the defense allowed just 91 yards per game rushing. That number would put the team among the top echelon of run stoppers. However without him, the defense suffered as it allowd around 140 yards per game on the ground.

The Case against him

Being that Fletcher Cox already carries such a massive contract, will Logan’s contract be too much money for one positional group? Cox has an annual salary of $17,100,000, but next season his cap hit is just $9,400,000.

Technically, the Eagles have the room to give Logan a contract this offseason and free up money next year to pay Cox. That said, in 2018, Cox’s cap hit will be a whopping $17,900,000. With that type of deal on the books, Philly does not have a lot of wiggle room.

Final Verdict

Logan’s is a tremendous football player. For him to come back to the Eagles, he has to take a contract with an annual cap hit around $5-$6 million a year. Any more than that, it is too much for the Eagles.

The Eagles will love to have Logan back. On and off the field he is a great player to have on your roster. Here is to hoping the Eagles and Logan can work out a deal.
