Bears release RB Unga; roster at 75

The Bears released RB Harvey Unga to reduce their roster to 75 players on Monday.

The Bears will be allowed to carry only 53 players on their active roster as of Friday at 9 p.m. and can establish their practice squad beginning Sept. 1.

Unga was a supplemental draft choice of the Bears in 2010. He withdrew voluntarily from BYU in April 2010 for a violation of the school's strict honor code after rushing for 1,087 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2009.

Injuries plagued Unga's multiple attempts to crack an NFL roster.

He is married to Keilani Moeaki, a former BYU women's basketball player and the sister of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Moeaki, who played collegiately at Iowa.
