May 20 (The Sports Xchange) - Los Angeles Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu will have shoulder surgery on Thursday and will not pitch this season, the team said Wednesday. The left-hander developed a sore pitching shoulder in late March during spring training and has been unable to fill the starting spot the Dodgers had planned for him. - - The Colorado Rockies demoted veteran outfielder Drew Stubbs to Triple-A Albuquerque and called up outfielder Brandon Barnes. Stubbs, 30, is hitting .118 with two home runs and five RBIs while making $5.8 million. He has struck out 31 times in 56 plate appearances. - - The New York Yankees called up outfielder Slade Heathcott from Triple-A to take the roster spot from Jacoby Ellsbury, who went on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee sprain. Ellsbury tweaked his knee swinging at a pitch in the fourth inning Tuesday against the Washington Nationals. - - The Oakland Athletics placed left-hander Drew Pomeranz on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left AC joint. Pomeranz (2-3, 4.40 ERA) left his start in the fifth inning Monday night with shoulder tightness. - - The Boston Red Sox acquired right-hander John Cornely from the Atlanta Braves.
