Catcher John Jaso and left fielder Seth Smith avoided arbitration Thursday by signing one-day deals, the Oakland A's announced. No other terms were announced for either contract. Jaso was acquired this week in a three-team trade, batted .276 with 10 homers and 50 RBIs for the Seattle Mariners last season. He was eligible for arbitration for the first time. Smith, who was traded from Colorado last season, hit .240 last season.
