Astros' new coaching staff taking shape

The Houston Astros hired former Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley for a yet-to-be-announced position and John Mallee as hitting coach, MLB.com reported Saturday.

The Astros had fired bench coach Joe Pettini on Friday.

With the new additions, new manager Bo Porter is close to completing his new coaching staff.

Trembley has spent the past two seasons as the Atlanta Braves' minor league field coordinator. Mallee most recently worked as the Florida (now Miami) Marlins' hitting coach from 2010-11.

Doug Brocail is returning as the Astros' pitching coach. Dave Clark, who was the third base coach, will remain but his role under Porter has not been determined.
