Angels trade Downs to Braves for Rasmus

The Atlanta Braves acquired left-handed reliever Scott Downs from the Los Angeles Angels for right-handed pitcher Cory Rasmus on Monday.

Downs, 37, is 2-3 with a 1.84 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 29 1/3 innings this year. He has also held left-handed hitters to a .196 batting average.

Rasmus, 25, has an 8.10 ERA over 6 2/3 innings pitched for the Braves and was 3-1 with a 1.72 ERA and 14 saves in 37 appearances with Triple-A Gwinnett.

Rasmus was a first round draft pick of the Braves in 2006. In seven minor league seasons, he is 17-22 with a 3.61 ERA.

To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the Braves designated right-handed reliever Kameron Loe for assignment. Loe made just two appearances for Atlanta, allowing three runs in 2 2/3 innings. Previously this season, he went 1-1 with a 7.80 ERA in 11 combined appearances for the Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs.
