If you thought Milwaukee was an exclusively friendly land filled with nothing but running sausages, Alice Cooper concerts and statues of old-car dealers, think again.
Ace pitcher Yovani Gallardo(notes) and a Milwaukee Brewers clubhouse attendant named Alex Sanchez were robbed at gunpoint early Friday morning on the mean streets of Wisconsin.
Details are still vague, but Sanchez was reportedly struck on the head by the robber while Gallardo escaped without injury.
[Gallardo said,] "It was a scary moment for me and Alex, a tough situation. Things like that happen in every city, everywhere you go, and it's unfortunate that happened to me and him. It was one of those random things. I've never had a problem like this before. We're all very thankful.
"We were just going ... getting a bite to eat before heading home. I'm trying to stay out of trouble, and unfortunately, trouble finds us. Nobody was seriously hurt. We're all OK. Both of us are fine."
It really must not be Gallardo's year. One moment, he's the only starting pitcher who's posting any decent stats for the Brewers this season. The next, he and his friend are being held up by some ne'er-do-well with a gun when all they were doing was trying to get some grub.
But it's good to hear that everyone's OK. Let this be a lesson to all, that the world is a scary place, even in Wisconsin. Make sure to keep your wits about you out there this weekend, Stewies.
