Mets Notebook: Tomás Nido making most of opportunity as Francisco Alvarez's injury replacement

Tomás Nido didn't know if he would get an opportunity with the Mets this season. The veteran catcher — a member of the organization for more than a decade — began the year at Triple-A Syracuse, the same place he finished 2023, with Francisco Alvarez establishing himself as the Mets' everyday backstop and Omar Narváez returning as his backup. “I'm grateful to be here,” Nido told the Daily News. Originally an eighth-round pick in 2012, Nido debuted with the Mets in 2017 and has spent time with the big-league club in each of the past eight seasons.
