Biggest Upset
Monica Puig (presumably no relation to Yasiel) knocked down No. 5 seed Sara Errani, but we all know the real story: Rafael Nadal losing to Steve Darcis in straight sets. It marked Nadal's first-ever first-round loss in a Grand Slam Event.
Other Big Names
Andy Murray opened against a German named B. Becker, but it wasn't Boris, it was Benjamin, who went down 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. Roger Federer sent Victor Hanescu packing 6-3, 6-2, 6-0. And Maria Sharapova had little trouble with Kristina Mladenovic, winning 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. And Lleyton Hewitt checked in from 2002 with a surprise 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 win over No. 11 Stan Wawrinka.
Worst Fall
Oh, this one looked bad. Victoria Azarenka was up 6-1, 1-0 on Maria Joao Koehler when Azarenka collapsed into a split and lay in agony on the court. She eventually got to her feet and with the help of a mile of athletic tape, continued the match. She would go on to win 6-1, 6-2, but the question of how her knee will fare in coming matches remains unanswered. She has until Wednesday for her next match.
