USMNT Live: Germany vs United States in international friendly
Wednesday was a reunion of sorts for the United States men's national team.
The last time Jurgen Klinsmann faced his native Germany (and former assistant Jogi Loew), it was at last summer's World Cup in the teams' final group game in Brazil. The Germans won 1-0 in rain-soaked Recife, but the Americans advanced to the knockout stage as well thanks to Portugal's 2-1 win over Ghana. So everyone got to celebrate that muggy day at Arena Pernambuco.
The stakes were nowhere near as high for Wednesday's friendly in Cologne. But it was interesting to see what Klinsmann's men would do for an encore after last Friday's shocking 4-3 comeback win over the Netherlands in Amsterdam. Also, roster spots for next month's Gold Cup remain up for grabs as the Americans tackled their toughest test yet in their preparation for the CONCACAF tournament.
