Most people have their favorite club chosen by their parents, or, if they come to the sport later in life, the table, but a man in Manchester has decided to auction off his seven-month-old son's future support for either Man City or Man United on eBay in the name of charity.

Ian Charters, a Watford fan originally from Hertfordshire, came up with the idea as a means to support Bliss, a charity that supports premature and sick babies, after his son Eddie was born premature. Realizing he would never get young Eddie to support Watford with two of the biggest clubs in the country in closer proximity, Ian thought he would try and make the most of the situation.

From the Manchester Evening News:

Asked how he would explain to his son his allegiance when he grows up, Ian, an administrator, told the M.E.N: “I could just say ‘United or City fans are more generous son’ or something like that.

“I’ll do all I can to encourage him. I’ll get him the top and the curtains and take him to the odd game. I won’t be able to force him. But I’ll do all I can to encourage him.”

The auction goes live on Thursday and once it ends, Charters will post a picture of his son in the winning shirt on Twitter. He will also run in the London Marathon in support of the same charity (donations can be made here).

Eddie will probably have a good laugh about all this when he's 13 and decides to support Real Madrid.
