Michael Phelps is upset about his swim cap

Fourth-Place Medal

This is a picture of the cap Michael Phelps will wear at the 2012 Olympics.

See if you can notice a difference between this Games' model and the previous three that Phelps has worn during his Olympic career:

The old caps had flags and names on each side -- a forward-facing flag on the left and a backward-facing flag on the right. That flip-flopped design ensured that the stars side of the flag was always surging forward with the swimmer on the TV side of the pool.

That won't be the case this year due to a change in international swimming rules that mandate a cap must be one-sided only. Phelps wasn't pleased with the decision. He wrote in a lengthy tweet accompanying the photo:

"Front and back of our caps We used to be able to have front and back side with flags but for some reason there are rules that tell us we cant do that anymore? Smh gotta love an organizing committee telling us we can't do that anymore."

Technically it was FINA, not the London committee that made the rule, but the end result is the same: A cap without symmetry or history. One-sided caps only look cool if you're the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hmm ... Maybe that's why Phelps, a noted Baltimore Ravens fan, is so upset.
