Watch massive fan brawl during Flyers vs. Rangers Game 6 (Video)

When the NHL changed it’s playoff format for the 2013-14 season, one of the objectives was a return to the intensity of divisional play.

Well, here’s some straight-up Patrick Division chaos during the Philadelphia Flyers’ 5-2 victory over the New York Rangers: a massive fan brawl during the third period. (WARNING: Some NSFW language.)

Mental note: If you get into a fan brawl at the game, never wear sweatpants. Crack kills…

Also, was that Chris Christie in the Giants' sweatshirt?

According to Chris Friess, this fight was filmed from Section 209, Row 11; Rangers fans “refused to leave after the ushers told them to go for their safety.”

Via Barstool Philly, here are three more looks at the brawl. (Again, some VERY NSFW language)

And here:

And the thrilling conclusion:

Ah, the post-fight walk of shame. Way to ruin a T.J. Sochi jersey, sir.

More details here from Deadspin.

While some may see this behavior as deplorable -- and it is -- this brings me way back to growing up in the cheap seats at the Meadowlands, watching fights between Devils fans and invading Rangers and Flyers fans.

It was like a second game being played in the stands: The war on the ice accompanied by a war of words, and frequently fists, in the cheap seats.

I’m not saying it’s classy or moral or legal or family friendly. I’m just saying that when it comes to NHL rivalries like the Rangers and Flyers, it’s always been part of the “intensity” of divisional playoff action.

Game 7 is Wednesday night, back in the friendly confines of MSG.
