Watch Alex Semin score his first KHL goal in Russian return (Video)

After being waived, refusing to report to the AHL and then being placed on unconditional waivers by the Montreal Canadiens, winger Alex Semin shot over to the KHL, where the defense is looser and there’s a decided lack of Michel Therrien.

Now playing for Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Semin’s played in three games and has two points, including his first KHL goal this season, scored against Spartak on Saturday.

In the second period of an eventual 4-0 win, Bogdan Potekhin – apparently not a character in the STAR WARS prequels – sent a two-zone pass down to a streaking Semin, who broke behind the defense. He moved in on Evgeny Ivannikov and unleashed a nifty move for the goal.

Semin is averaging 16:47 TOI in three games with 19.3 shifts per game. Which means he’s playing, which is an improvement over Montreal. He previously played with Torpedo during the 2012 lockout, scoring seven goals in 20 games.

In other ex-pat NHL news, Steve Moses is back in the KHL, where he won the scoring title last season before crapping out with the Nashville Predators this year. He has four goals in five games with SKA.
