Shawn Thornton sprays P.K. Subban with water bottle, sparking outrage

The Boston Bruins defeated the Montreal Canadiens, 4-2, in Game 5 of their series, which has become a parade of trash talking and, in the Bruins’ case, trolling P.K. Subban from the bench.

First we had Milan Lucic flexing and taunting Subban after the Habs defenseman chirped him from the ice. Then, in the game’s waning minutes, we had Subban getting a water bottle squirt from Shawn Thornton in the face:

Look fast, or else you’ll miss the sneaky little play from Thornton, who later laughed about it.

Subban went to the officials to complain about what could have been an unsportsmanlike conduct call against Thornton.

After the game, Subban was asked about the incident three times, and tried to douse the fire (ironic!).

“I don’t know if it was him, but somebody had squirted water twice at the end of the game there. It hit me in the visor and I couldn’t even see for the last minute and a half out there. I was pretty upset about that. It’s part of the game,” he said.

When asked if it was really part of the game, Subban said:

“I don’t know if it was part of the game. But I’m sure if it was me that did it, it would be a different story. Probably be on the news for the next three days. I don’t expect it to be a story. Whatever it takes to win.

“Listen, they beat us,” Subban continued. “That’s not the reason that we lost. It’s just one of those things that frustrates you.”

Nice response from Subban, not only keeping the focus on his team’s effort in going down 3-2 in the series, but attempting to show that the Bruins haven’t gotten to him – yet.

UPDATE: Thornton was fined by the NHL for his actions in the game.
