Oilers pie prank in Nashville: The real story

Mascots set up pranks all the time. It's not often at an NHL game where the subject of a prank it unwilling and unknowing ... until Tuesday night in Nashville.

The Predators mascot, Gnash, made a glorious return from a broken leg, against the Edmonton Oilers, going onto the ice in a four-wheeler, running around Bridgestone Arena pumping up the crowd. But one act seemed to grab the attention of most watching on Sportsnet at home. Gnash decided to thrust a pie into the face of two seemingly unsuspecting Oilers fans. The video, please ...

But truth be told, the fans were actually not unsuspecting, and knew the consequences, or at least one did. Per Gnash's official spokeswoman, Alexis Witman, the young woman in the video was in on the prank the whole time, to make sure her brother got nailed with the pie.

"Both fans are real Edmonton fans," Witman said. "Gnash had met the girl before and she was part of a plot to set up her brother to get pied in the face. She knew it was coming."

And for complying with the in-game entertainment, Gnash hooked up the duo for a game at a later date. Per Witman:

"It was all in fun and Gnash sent the victims tickets to a future game with the promise of 'no pies' for being such sports."
