NHL Three Stars: Rakell's ridiculous OT goal; Ovi scores 40

No. 1 Star: Rickard Rakell, Anaheim Ducks

All you need to know is that Rakell scored a filthy goal in overtime for Anaheim's seventh straight win.

 

No. 2 Star: Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals

With his goal tonight, Ovi is the tenth player to reach the 40 goal plateau for the eighth time in their career.

No. 3 Star: Tuukka Rask, Boston Bruins

The netminder improved his record to 24-17-5 and allowed only 1 goal on 40 shots against.

Honorable Mention: Ben Bishop shutout the New Jersey Devils 4-0 with 21 saves. Steven Stamkos scored a goal (27) and an assist ... After getting pulled his last start, Braden Holtby earned a 3-2 win for the Washington Capitals. Brooks Orpik scored a goal and was credited with 8 hits and 5 blocked shots in a team high 24:44 TOI ... Matt Beleskey tallied 2 goals in the Bruins 3-1 over the Carolina Hurricanes. Brad Marchand hit the empty net at the end for his 32 goal of the season. Scoring on the power play, Ryan Getzlaf extends his point streak to 7 games. Jordan Eberle notched goal No. 20 on the season. Zach Bogosian scored the game winning goal for the Buffalo Sabres and then assisted on Evander Kane's empty netter with 1:17 to go. Buffalo beat San Jose 3-1. Chad Johnson got the win, possibly his last with the Sabres.

Did You Know? Per Elias, for the first time in San Jose Sharks history, the team played in a game where neither team was whistled for a penalty.

Dishonorable Mention: Viktor Hedman appeared to be injured in the third period. Jon Cooper did not believe the injury was serious and he would reevaluate on Saturday. Despite getting the win, Tampa's power play was 0-for-6 ... The Wild are on a three game losing streak. Time to fire the coach again! (KIDDING) ... Justin Schultz and Teddy Purcell were held out of the game against Anaheim. Per Bob McKenzie, they'll return to Edmonton with the team.
