Awesome: Pint ‘o beer St. Patrick’s Day jerseys for the Chicago Express
Every season, hockey teams around North America release St. Patrick's Day-themed jerseys that traffic in the expected iconography: Shamrocks, the colors of Ireland, placing "O" before a player's moniker on the nameplate. (Why don't they every do this for Hanukkah? We'd totally rock a Shane O'Brienstein sweater.)
But these jerseys rarely capture the true nature of the holiday, however, which is something the Chicago Express of the ECHL are trying to remedy … by placing a tall pint of beer front-and-center on their St. Pat's sweaters this season.
Those are not tiny shamrocks or leprechaun testicles. That there is a tall pint of brew, and the Chicago logo is soaking in it.
The jerseys were conceived and designed by Athletic Knit. "Those are beer bubbles. It's green beer. Absolutely," said Paul Pereira, who does Midwest sales for the 5o-year-old company.
The Express, an affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets, will wear the jerseys on Saturday, March 17, and they'll be auctioned off that evening to benefit the American Brain Tumor Association.
"Here's a team where their best crowd of the week is their Friday night dollar beer night," said Pereira. "I guess it plays into their crowd, right?"
