Angela Price rips media for announcing couple's pregnancy news

Angela Price scolded media that reported her pregnancy before she was able to tell family and friends.

The wife of Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price, who will appear on the new season of the W Network TV show Hockey Wives, took exception to TSN reporter John Lu and the publication 25 Stanley for reporting the couple was expecting their first child before they officially announced the news.

Said Angela Price on her blog:

We had not yet told the majority of friends and family who are now reading it all over the internet. The past couple of weeks Carey and I had been discussing ways we could announce our big news, anxiously awaiting for that all important doctor appointment where we would get the green light to share OUR news. But why would a first time mother and father want to be the ones to announce this big news, when heartless media can do it for you?!

Lu published an online apology on TSN’s website.

Said Lu:

To explain, I will say this, which is what I communicated with Angela later that afternoon: My motivation was to share exciting and happy news with people who adore Carey and Angela, not a desire to manufacture a scoop. I wouldn't normally Tweet that kind of information, but I was genuinely happy for a man whom I respect greatly for how he conducts himself as a professional and a person. Moreover, I admire what Carey stands for, especially when it comes to honouring his First Nations heritage and helping indigenous children and youth.

Lu called the report a "miscommunication" with Price after the Canadiens' win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

25 Stanley apologized “for the trouble I’ve caused you (Angela Price) following the release of the news on your pregnancy”:

However, I want you to understand that I did not go through your trash or hacked your medical record. I got the information via a remote member of your entourage. This kind of good news spreads very quickly. When I got the tip, I took time to think about how to release it. I thought about the image you project. You are active on Twitter, you manage a personal blog that exposes your relationship, marriage and your family experiences. In addition to having participated in 24CH, you’re going to be the new headliner of a reality show on the lives of hockey players wives. I misjudged your image, but I thought you were the kind of woman who accepts and understands that when one is exposed in this way in the media in a hockey city like Montreal, there’s some risk of losing some privacy. It is what I did.

In a lighthearted moment at the end of her blog, Angela Price announced the couple would not name their child Stanley, which some had jokingly suggested to the couple.

Last season, Carey Price won both the Hart and Vezina trophies. This year the 28-year-old Price is 6-0-0 with a 1.00 goal-against average and .966 save percentage for the Canadiens, who are undefeated in their first seven games.
