It hasn't been the best few months for the Buffalo Bills' promising defense, and defensive tackle Marcell Dareus has been a big reason for that.

Dareus, who earlier this offseason was busted for both possession of synthetic marijuana and for drag racing, failed his initial conditioning test run as the team reported to training camp. Dareus will remain on the active/non-football injury list until he can pass the test.

"He's not the only one, but obviously you want your players to come in and be ready to go," head coach Doug Marrone said Sunday, per ESPN.com. "We're here for a long period of time and we'll make up for it."

Is Dareus committed to football after a bad few months where you easily could call that into question? Marrone said he believes so.

"I think that's what he'll be ready to do and that's been my conversations with him," Marrone said.

The Bills' defense, which ranked in the top 10 a year ago, is changing coordinators from Mike Pettine, who left to take the Cleveland Browns' head-coaching job, to Jim Schwartz. They already have lost one of their best playmakers in Kiko Alonso, who was coming off a fantastic rookie season.
