WKU coach Bobby Petrino tests the waters by floating out a chrome helmet

Now that Western Kentucky has a fancy new coach, it needs a fancy new look to go with him.

Coach Bobby Petrino tweeted out a photo of a chrome – yes, chrome is the new matte – Western Kentucky helmet that the team will wear this upcoming season and asked fans what they thought of the new dome. It has the same design as WKU’s old helmet – plain background with the red WKU towel – only this one is shiny.

And the kids like shiny.

Like any good pitch man, Petrino actually teased the existence of a new helmet on March 5, but waited nearly a month later to unveil the actual product.

There’s no doubt chrome is the new “it” color (is it a color?) and Western Kentucky is trying to capitalize on it. Personally, I think it looks nice. Simple, but shiny.

Can't wait to see the uniform that goes with it.
