VT QB Logan Thomas comments on Miami’s (lack of) attendance for home games
Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas isn't intimidated at the thought of playing Miami at Sun Life Stadium.
After all, it isn't 2001.
No, Miami's home field is a far cry from what it used to be. The once raucous — and at times scary — environment has given way to an apathetic crowd that makes excuses about how hot noon games are and may or may not show up by halftime.
"I guess the last time I went was two years ago and it's a big stadium for any team. I guess because 'The U' is the way 'The U' is now and not of the old ages, that it's not as full as it has been and used to be," Thomas told media. "I don't know how to put it up against another stadium. It still has some sound to it, but it's not what you would expect a team that has a legacy like Miami to have. Communication should be fine."
This weekend's game between the Hokies and Hurricanes could decide the ACC Coastal Division title. Miami is 3-2 in the league while Virginia Tech is 2-2. Both trail Duke, which is 3-2 but has a better overall record, and faces a rough second half of the season.
Both Miami and Virginia Tech see this game as an opportunity to meet up with Florida State in the conference championship.
Last year's game between these two teams was a barnburner. Thomas ran 19 yards for the game-winning touchdown on a fourth-and-1 with 56 seconds remaining. Thomas only threw one pass in the game.
But this year's Virginia Tech team has been a shell of its former self and Miami, which has lost three in a row, could take advantage and finally give its fans a reason to show up.
