Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury takes out full-page ad thanking students for attendance and asking for more

Kliff Kingsbury, college football’s hippest and coolest coach, took an ad out in the Daily Toreador, the student newspaper, thanking students for their attendance last year and encouraging them to come to games this year.

Here’s the text of the ad:

Raider Nation, thank you for the incredible support you showed last season. Together we shattered the record for highest student attendance at over 11,000 students per game. This year it’s time to get live and fill all 12,577 student seats every game and show the world why ESPN named you the best student section in the Big 12. Every game will be packed, so get there early, stay late and let’s get rowdy! It all starts this Saturday night at 6 p.m. in the Jones. Guns Up!”

The ad also includes Kingsbury’s signature ad his photo.

Support for Texas Tech is at an all-time high. The school has already sold out its season ticket allotment and just 3,000 tickets remain for the season opener against Central Arkansas (yes, Central Arkansas).

In a time when student attendance is waning at many schools, including Alabama and Florida, Tech students seem to be rallying around the energy of their young second-year coach and it’s paying dividends for the program. Kingsbury creates a measure of pride for the students by citing the records it set last season.

Perhaps more coaches should take out ads in the student paper telling their students how awesome they are.
