Report: Big 12 calls Mike Gundy to apologize for botched Texas TD call

The Big 12 felt so bad about missing a call that cost Oklahoma State a win against Texas, its head of football officials reportedly called Cowboys coach Mike Gundy to apologize.

It didn't feel bad enough to reverse the decision and give the win to the Cowboys, but we're sure Gundy took the news well on the phone call.

The call in question came at the end of Saturday's game, when Texas running back Joe Bergeron appeared to score a touchdown to give the Longhorns a win. But replays showed Bergeron may have lost the ball before he crossed the goal line. Oklahoma State recovered the loose ball, but Texas was given the touchdown, even after replay review.

It appears the Big 12 agrees that Bergeron lost the ball and the touchdown shouldn't have stood, according to The Oklahoman. The paper, quoting an anonymous source, said Big 12 director of football officials Walt Anderson called Gundy and "apologized profusely." The report singled out head linesman Brad Edwards as the official that got the call wrong, saying he signaled the touchdown too soon "without proper view of the ball," and the ball was out before Bergeron scored.

Well, we're sure a "Whoops! Sorry!" will be enough to appease Oklahoma State fans.
