Florida QB Treon Harris suspended pending investigation into sexual assault

Florida quarterback Treon Harris has been accused of sexually assaulting a female student early Sunday morning in a residence hall on the UF campus.

The Florida football team has suspended him indefinitely.

The school issued a release Monday saying the University of Florida Police Department and Gainesville Police Department are investigating the incident and collecting forensic evidence.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.

Florida noted that due to privacy requirements the school was limited on the information it could provide. Student Affairs will conduct a Student Conduct Code process, which means Harris could be banned from campus and all campus activities pending the outcome of the conduct process.

"We have no tolerance for sexual assault on our campus," Florida president Bernie Machen said in the statement. "The university is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for every member of the UF community. We must strive to protect all of our students from sexual harassment and assault, and do everything in our power to promote a safe learning environment."

Harris, a freshman, helped the Gators to a 10-9 win against Tennessee last weekend. After replacing ineffective quarterback Jeff Driskel, Harris led the Gators on their only two scoring drives, including the game-winning field goal.

Coach Will Muschamp didn’t say whether Harris would be the starter going forward, but did note that the situation would be evaluated this week.

Florida hosts LSU on Saturday.
