QB Zach Kline will transfer from Cal again
The football journey of Zach Kline continues.
Kline, a senior quarterback, announced Thursday that he will leave Cal – for a second time – and play his final season of college football elsewhere.
Kline, a top 50 recruit in the 2012 class, started his career at Cal and was the backup to No. 1 NFL draft pick Jared Goff in 2013 before transferring. At first, it was reported Kline would transfer to Oregon State, but he ended up at Butte College instead.

He played one season at Butte before transferring in 2015 to Indiana State, where he played in three games. Following his lone season with the Sycamores, Kline decided to return to Cal to finish his degree, which he did in May. Upon his return to Cal, Kline rejoined the football team as a walk-on and participated in spring practice.
In a message posted to his Twitter account, Kline said his experience playing in Cal’s spring game inspired him to give being a starting quarterback one final shot.

With Cal bringing in Texas Tech graduate transfer Davis Webb, it was unlikely that Kline would ascend to the top of the depth chart. Since he graduated from Cal, he will be eligible immediately wherever he ends up.
