K-State DT Bryce English transfers due to family illness
Kansas State’s Bryce English reached a difficult decision on Monday.
The freshman defensive tackle announced on Twitter that he is leaving the Wildcats program in order to be closer to his family in DeSoto, Texas. English’s father was recently diagnosed with bone marrow cancer.
“This decision was hard for me but I’ve sat down with my family and talked it over and I’ve prayed every day to God about this decision. I will be transferring from Kansas State University. My father has been diagnosed with bone marrow cancer but I have all the faith in the world that he is gonna beat it,” English wrote.
“I would like to thank Coach (Bill) Snyder and the whole Kansas State Coaching Staff for giving me the opportunity to be a part of such a great team and a great University. I’ve made so many friendships on and off the field and learned so much not only from my friends but from my professors and academic advisors. I would also like to thank the whole city of Manhattan. I’ve never met so many genuine people who truly care about you has a person and not just as a football player.
“In efforts to transfer I‘ll be looking to find a school somewhere in Texas or close that’s closer to home so that I can be by my family and my father. If everyone could keep my family in their prayers I’d be so grateful.”
English redshirted this season for the Wildcats, but was expected to see playing time on the defensive line in 2016. He was one of the highest-rated prospects in Kansas State’s 2015 recruiting class. English was a three-star recruit and rated by Rivals.com as the 30th-best defensive tackle in the country.
Kansas State went 6-6 this season and is scheduled to play Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl on Jan. 2.
