Iowa St. announces transfer signee who is 'exploring all options'

Former Rhode Island offensive tackle Tyler Catalina isn't ready to commit fully to Iowa State just yet. Even if the school is publicly saying otherwise.

Catalina told the Des Moines Register that he is looking around at other schools and hasn't made a decision where he will play football in 2016. He started all 11 games for Rhode Island in 2015.

“As of right now, I’m just going through the process and exploring all options and just trying to find where the best fit would be for me to play next year,” Catalina told the Register.

Iowa State listed Catalina as a member of its 2016 recruiting class in a release Wednesday afternoon.

Catalina told the Reigster that he had signed a financial aid agreement with the school. However, the FAA is not binding like a letter of intent (what incoming freshmen sign) is. While Iowa State can technically call him a signee, he is also free from locking in his commitment until he officially signs his scholarship papers with the school.

So that exploration has led to a bit of awkwardness. Not only with his presence on Iowa State's signee list, but on his own Twitter account. His avatar and background image both reflect his Iowa State pledge. But those pictures were juxtaposed with two retweets of his brother among other tweets. One tweet said his Iowa State commitment wasn't final (directly disputing Iowa State's proclamation that he was a member of its class) and another reflected a scholarship offer from Texas A&M.

“Nothing binding, but I did verbally commit to Iowa (State) and that’s where I am until I find a better fit,” he said. “I’m just trying to weigh all my options and just find that best fit.”

Will he find a better fit than Iowa State? His Twitter account reflects other offers from Auburn, Georgia and Penn State.
