Controversial ending to ND-Stanford game adds fuel to this rivalry

Notre Dame and Stanford played the type of epic game we've come to expect from these teams, but the ending will be one that is debated for years to come.

Notre Dame won 20-13 in overtime after a heroic goal-line stand against Stanford running back Stepfan Taylor.

But many will claim the Irish didn't actually get the stop.

After looking at the video, it appears as though Taylor rolls over the pile of bodies and stretches the ball over the end line for the touchdown.

However, officials say the play was dead because Taylor's momentum and a review didn't provide enough to overturn the ruling. When it was official, fans came storming down from the stands to join the team in celebrating the Irish's first win in four tries in the rivalry while Stanford left wildly disappointed in a game it thought should have at least gone to a second overtime.

Honestly, I think the officials got this one wrong, but I also think it's a hard play to judge one way or the other. Taylor was still moving forward, his progress had not been stopped, he wasn't tackled and he was never down. Both Notre Dame and Stanford have a valid argument on this one and it will be a play that will be debated for years to come. Regardless of how much we analyze the film and question the call, Notre Dame won the game and that's really all that matters.

The win gives the Irish their first 6-0 start since 2002.

As for Stanford, this one has to sting a bit. The Cardinal was up 10-3 heading into the fourth quarter and led 13-10 before the Irish kicked a game-tying field goal with 20 seconds remaining.
