Cincinnati receiver Mark Barr returns to campus after being severely injured in September crash (Video)
University of Cincinnati freshman wide receiver Mark Barr was released from a rehabilitation center and visited his teammates Tuesday after being severely injured in a traffic accident on Sept. 21.
According to Bearcats head coach Tommy Tuberville, Barr is making steady progress in his recovery, but still has months of healing to go after suffering multiple injuries, including a head injury, in a crash that killed UC teammate Ben Flick and another UC student.
Barr was held in a hospital intensive care unit for a month after the accident, according to the Associated Press, and was moved to a rehab center in Cincinnati in October. Barr was greeted warmly and received a nice ovation from coaches, players and staffers when visiting UC’s Lindner Center on campus Tuesday.
“He’s got a lot of work to do,” Tuberville said. “He’s not on solid food yet, but hopefully by the end of the week he will be and have an opportunity to start gaining his weight and strength back.
"But he looks real good, considering what hes been through the last eight weeks. We’re proud to see a lot of progress out of mark. And he’ll be around all of the players and coaches now, and that will even enhance the rehab.”
