Check out Akron's new gold chrome helmets (Photo)

The offseason is a good time for equipment departments for programs across the country to play around with some designs on helmets and uniforms. In the new year, we’ve already seen experimental helmets from schools like Florida A&M, South Florida, Southern Miss and Florida Atlantic.

Now, Akron is rolling out a new look.

Former Zips offensive lineman Vinnie Rizzo tweeted out a photo of gold chrome helmets with the with Akron “Z” logo. It’s a pretty cool look, but it’s one we’ve seen before from other teams. Also, coupled with the uniform, the whole look resembles Notre Dame pretty closely.

Recruits love this kind of stuff, so maybe it’ll help Terry Bowden and company as they continue rebuilding the program.
