Auburn police investigating Twitter threat to behead Auburn coach Gus Malzahn

Auburn police are currently investigating threats made against coach Gus Malzahn and Jordan-Hare Stadium.

According to a report by al.com, tweets sent from @bhayes4420 on Oct. 5 made references to cutting off Malzahn’s head “ISIS style” and killing Auburn fans by blowing up Jordan-Hare Stadium. Police are currently trying to learn the identity of the Twitter account owner to question him about the threats.

While the original tweets were deleted, al.com obtained screenshots:

Auburn police chief Paul Register told al.com the Twitter poster does not live in Alabama and has a history of making threats toward sports teams. Right now, investigators have not determined whether the threats are credible.

"Even if it isn't a direct threat, it does become alarming to people, and that is when it becomes our business," Register told the website.

Auburn is out of town this weekend, playing at Mississippi State and doesn’t return home until it hosts South Carolina on Oct. 25. Hopefully, there will be extra security for Malzahn until this is cleared up and at Jordan-Hare Stadium at the end of the month.
