It’s been a few days since ESPN reported that Oklahoma State is “expected to part ways” with head coach Travis Ford, but there hasn’t been a word from the university.

There seems to be plenty going on behind the scenes, however.

The Tulsa World reported Monday that OSU has already assembled a committee to find the program’s next head coach, but an announcement of Ford’s termination may not come any time soon. Instead, Ford is apparently a candidate for other openings around the country.

From the World:

It is believed Ford might be a candidate for two other jobs, a source said on Monday.

If Ford were to find another job, it could reduce the amount of money Oklahoma State would owe Ford if they part ways. It could delay the time frame for Oklahoma State to announce any news on the program.

Ford recently finished his eighth season at the helm with a first round exit in the Big 12 tournament. The Cowboys finished the year 12-20 (3-15 Big 12), dropping Ford’s overall record with the program to 155-111. Before this season, Ford led the Cowboys to the NCAA tournament in three straight seasons and five times overall. However, OSU hasn’t advanced past the first round since the 2008-09 campaign.

The 46-year-old Ford still has three years and $7.2 million left on his contact. If Ford finds another opportunity, the buyout could significantly decrease.

The Oklahoman reported Saturday night that a decision about Ford’s future had not been made, but the coach was expected to meet with athletic director Mike Holder in the future. According to the World, that meeting “is believed” to have taken place Monday.
