No. 2 Syracuse survives 10-minute stretch without basket in first ACC game
Syracuse remained unbeaten Saturday, winning a game without reaching the 50-point mark for the first time in nearly 10 years.
But the 21,839 fans who watched the Orange battle Miami and ultimately triumph 49-44 at the Carrier Dome might have a little buyer's remorse with this whole move to the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Syracuse's first ACC game will be remembered for how ugly and sluggish it was offensively thanks to Miami's determination to slow things down and test the famous Syracuse zone defense with patience and the 3-pointer.
It nearly worked. Miami led by five points with just over 6 minutes remaining thanks to a cold stretch from the Orange, who didn't score their first field goal of the second half until 11 minutes, 10 seconds remained. They went 10 minutes without a field goal spanning halftime.
C.J. Fair ended the drought with one of Syracuse's three made 3-pointers. He led his team with 15 points.
The Orange made 39 percent of their shots but won with offensive rebounds and by not turning over the ball. Miami committed 15 turnovers foiling its upset bid. Miami didn't have a player score in double figures.
