Dunk of the year candidate: Wichita State guard Tekele Cotton

From Minnesota guard Austin Hollins' monster slam against Wisconsin, to Campbell guard Reco McCarter's 360 jam against Radford, college basketball produced several impressive dunks on Wednesday night.

Nonetheless, the most memorable dunk of the night belonged to Wichita State guard Tekele Cotton.

With 5:40 left in Wichita State's victory at Illinois State on Wednesday night, Cotton caught a pass from Ron Baker on the baseline and attacked the rim just as a late-arriving 6-foot-9 John Jones slid over. The 6-foot-2 Cotton threw down a dunk so vicious over Jones that it hit social media even before the game was over.

"Oh man, that was quite a play," Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall told reporters after the game. "Tremendous. Tekele’s just a tremendous athlete and it seemed like he never stopped rising. It was just a throw — a throw-down into the hole."

Cotton's dunk helped Wichita State pull away from Illinois State in the second half and improve to 20-0 this season. Up next for the Shockers in their quest to finish the regular season undefeated: A road game at struggling Drake on Saturday afternoon.
