Butler student wins $18,000 with a confident half-court shot

One of the clutch performances of the best Saturday of college basketball so far this season came before most of the games had started.

Butler hosted ESPN's College GameDay show at Hinkle Fieldhouse in advance of a top-25 matchup with Gonzaga. At the end of the show, a Butler student was given the opportunity to hit a half-court shot in 18 seconds to win $18,000 in a contest sponsored by State Farm insurance.

Kevin Schwartz, a junior from Oak Park, Ill., who serves as a male practice player for the Butler women's basketball team drained his first attempt after predicting he would make it. The Indianapolis Star reported Schwartz didn't play basketball in high school and grew up a Duke fan.

Butler needed Schwartz's accuracy from half-court three years ago in the national title game against Duke when former Bulldogs' star Gordon Hayward's last-second shot from half court bounced off the rim.
