Lions 'strongly' consider sitting Calvin Johnson in Week 6

Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is set to have more tests on his ankle after aggravating his injury during Sunday’s loss to the Bills and coach Jim Caldwell left open the possibility that Johnson would miss Week Six during his Monday press conference.

Johnson didn’t catch a pass until the second half of the game against Buffalo and promptly left the game for good after being hit by cornerback Leodis McKelvin in the leg after the reception. That came a week after Johnson saw spot duty while catching two short passes against the Jets and after two weeks that saw Johnson mostly on the sideline during practice.

“I thought about [sitting him] last week, and just looking at him and certainly being straightforward, I’m going to think about it again this week — strongly,” Caldwell said, via MLive.com. “So we’ll see.”

The Lions have had good success throwing to Golden Tate while Johnson has been limited the last two weeks, which might make them feel more comfortable about going without Johnson entirely in Minnesota next Sunday.
