NBC on Yahoo SportsDay hopes to improve 'horrific' record at Memorial
DUBLIN, Ohio – Home-field advantage is usually a good thing.
That hasn't been the case for Jason Day at the Memorial Tournament.
Day is a member at Muirfield Village and estimates he plays once or twice a week when he is home. His explosive drives and towering irons seem like a perfect fit for the Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead designed course.
But in eight starts, Day's best finish was a T-27 in 2009. He has only made the cut four times.
"Horrific," said Day Tuesday about his record. "And it's my home course, so that makes it even worse.

Fortunately for Day, this year is a little different than his previous starts at the Memorial. He's the No. 1 player in the world thanks to three wins this season, including his last start at The Players Championship.
Plus, he has a new gameplan for Muirfield Village. When he's playing a social round during an off week, Day plays really agressive. The course is usually softer so the ball doesn't roll as much.
That changes during the tournament, but Day has usually taken his aggressive lines during Memorial week, and it hasn't worked out too well.
"I think this year is more about taking more conservative lines off tees or conservative shots, maybe throttling back a little bit here or there," he said.
At The Players, Day admitted he was motivated by all the talk of his poor record at Sawgrass. He's found similar motivation heading into the Memorial.
"I'm looking to change that this week," he said.
