Ron Paul stars in Astros rainbow uniform at ’76 Congressional ballgame

Hey, is that Cesar Cedeño or Ron Paul?

Almost nobody likes Congress. The polls say so. But I'll say this for the federal legislature: Republicans and Democrats play each other in a baseball game every year, and that partly makes up for whatever it is they do the rest of the time.

Back in December, Summer Anne Burton of NotGraphs published a wonderful post called "GOP Presidential Candidates and Baseball" that explored how each of the hopefuls has been affiliated with the national pastime. The runaway winner was Ron Paul, simply because he happened to be photographed wearing a customized Houston Astros uniform while playing for the Republicans in the 1976 game at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. Many of the politicos who play today still wear the uniform of their local club. What a wonderfully silly excuse to dress up.

But Paul really did it right: Rainbow, star, stirrups. The only thing missing is white cleats. (I'm not sure what I think of putting his entire name on the back of the jersey. That's a violation.) Still, he'd fit right in with Jose Cruz, Enos Cabell and J.R. Richard. And check out those forearms. Nice to meet you, Mr. Garvey, err, Dr. Paul. With guns like those, it might not surprise you to realize that Paul reportedly hit the only home run over the fence in the history of the Congressional series — so says his son Sen. Rand Paul.

Ron Paul could swing a bat. (Libertatiangirl@Flickr)

No matter what you think of Paul's politics — look at that swing! Arms extended, head down, back foot dug in. Up in Hitting Coach Heaven, Charlie Lau is smiling. I don't think the above photo is of Paul hitting his legendary homer — that reportedly came sometime in the 1980s — but it's nice to imagine it happening at Memorial Stadium, where Brooks Robinson, Cal Ripken and Eddie Murray cut their teeth.

Nut gets out of breath just breathing. As for his affairs, reverse cowgirl for him.

However, when GOP women were surveyed and asked if they would have an affiar with Gingrich, 76% replied, "Never again!"

The only person that is capable of hitting a Home Run as the President of the United States...

Im not much of a religious type but one must believe that God would vote for Ron Paul if he lived here....it just boggles my brain when people say they support the other candidates. they have no message that resonates with the people. All they are trying to do is beat Obama, but what will that accomplish if its not Ron Paul.......nothing

As a Canadian, I'm so confused how the US people doesn't embrace RP. He's a national freaking hero for cryin' out loud! He's the kind of guy comic book super hero has for a back story or alter ego. How is every USA loving, flag waving, gun toting, God fearing, red blooded America not idolizing this guy??? Instead the current flavour of the month is a man with atrocious ethics: worst speaker in the history of the house, later fined and removed on egregious ethics charges; a divisive man whom other Republicans have condemned; a lobbyist who's profited millions of taxpayer money, a serial adulterer, liar, cheat, and overall #$%$ How could anyone get behind this guy to lead your country? Mitt Romney, who's the ultimate 1% shill; bought and paid for by the banks. A puppet if there's ever been one. And then there's Santorum, the least likeable of a terrible trio. What a contemptible excuse for a man. I hate to be negative, but this guy projects a really lousy image.Come on Americans! The rest of the world is counting on you to wake up in time to save your county from ruin. If you wanna be the top global superpower then you gotta act like a superhero, like Ron Paul. Not like the super villains who want to attack before a threat is imminent, steal your money, and enslave you.

Gingrich asking : Why are these people swinging a piece of wood
Romney asking : How can you play polo without a horse
Santorum asking : Is this a new paddle for hitting kids who misbehave?

Ron Paul answers : Give me all you got . I can handle it

Ron Paul is still number one. Playing for the team America, and fighting to win back our Liberties that were stolen because Americans have become cowards, that will give up their freedom because the Media has them scared of ghost, that live in caves, somewhere in the Middle East. Aren't you people ashamed of selling your childrens future down the river just so you can feel a little safer. The funny part is the ones that are fearmongering are the ones that are stealing your most prized possession, your constitution and your civil rights.

Baseball and Apple Pie Ron Paul is a True American vote for the Good Doctor Ron Paul 2012!!
    • Robert  •  3 months ago
Funny, have you seen the chugg on Newt??? If elected, people say Paul is to old, but Newt seems to out of shape. I think Paul will live longer than Newt, even at Pauls age today. Newt is nothing but a fat, establishment, lobbyist supported, Vietnam Deferer, etc.. while Paul is still kicking, heatlhy, Veteran. I guess that shows you what happens when you have to fight for everything you get vs. sitting fat and lazy, eating from the silver spoons of the establishment lobbyist that have ruined this country.

Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, freedom, liberty, and Ron Paul 2012! What could be more American then that!

This is probably why the Republicans let him run for Congress as a Republican. He was their star player in the 70's and 80's.

His home run made Ripley's too.
