Which player will use the Transitions to break his slump?
If you looked at the leaderboard of the Transitions Championship this week, you'd see a ton of familiar names. What do they all have in common?
Besides being famous for doing things back in their respective careers, most of the names you see battling for the title haven't won in quite a long time.
Jim Furyk, the leader, is seeking his first win since 2007. Padraig Harrington reeled off three major championships but hasn't hoisted a trophy on either of the big tours since '08. Jeff Maggert's last win came in 2006. K.J. Choi and Carl Pettersson haven't seen the winner's circle since '08. Bubba Watson has still never won.
The only big name in the top seven to have won in the last year is the defending champion, Retief Goosen, who broke his four year slump with a one stroke win here in '09.
Call it the battle of the battered. Winning isn't easy on the PGA Tour, but when you're making it happen a lot it sure seems like it'll never stop. Go six months without winning and you start to think you may never win again.
If one of those seven win on Sunday, it will sure make the venture to Augusta National all the more realistic. If not, they will have to go to the green paradise still without a victory in hand, trying to break a slump at a course that doesn't allow many mistakes to go unpunished.
