Heat’s big names wooed Baron Davis

US PresswireJust a few weeks ago, New York Knicks fans were anxious to have point guard Baron Davis heal up and get onto the court. Of course, that was before Jeremy Lin began starting games and tearing through opponents' defenses.

Now Davis is back in action, he is coming off the bench, a fact that doesn't seem to bother him a bit. "It's my 13th year in the league, so I'm not fighting for anything but a championship," Davis said, according to ESPN New York. "That's all that matters."

Thursday, the team takes on the Miami Heat, a team whose biggest stars — LeBron James and Dwyane Wade -- spent some energy wooing him after he was waived by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Davis said, according to the site.

"I spoke to Pat Riley. D-Wade, LeBron, they texted me and asked me what was up," Davis said, ESPN reports. "But I pretty much knew I wanted to come [to New York] and play in the Garden and play in front of these fans and play for this organization. I always wanted to play here, so this was really like my first choice."

If he is so interested in winning a championship, they why would he sign with the Knicks? I'm sure the Heat, Lakers, etc showed interest

I think he cared more for the lifestyle and atmosphere in NY than the championship!

silly article----you talk NBA Championship and the Knicks in the same sentence, not a good choice Davis----at least at this time. Maybe a few years down the road!

#$%$ "all i want to do is win a championship in my 13th year" so i joined a team that got swept in the playoff last year instead of the team wooing me...the team that made it to the finals and are the favorites this year even without me...but hey! all i care about is a championship now! no wonder elton brand tricked this fool into joining the clippers a few years ago so easily, this guy is dumb as rock ROFL

Mean no disrespect to veteran guard here but tell me why would Lakers show interest in overweight, often injured 33 years-old point guard have played 2 games this season as for now?
Get Sessions and T-Mac, plus push for Rasheed. Im sure he can pack 25 minutes to back up Gasol or/and Bynum. As crazy as it sounds but would be cool to see Wallace in Lakers jersey.

Knicks 6 through 10 is better than some teams 1 through 5. Depth is the key to the knicks success. They will have a lot of trouble without shumpert tonight. You can never have enough good defenders when you gotta guard two of the best players in the game

He stated that he wanted to win a championship. That alone explains why he didn't go to Southbeach.

In my opinion, Davis strikes me as a self serving type who is jealous of the success that stars like Kobe and Lebron have had.

that's far from the truth because i never heard him complain about not starting with the cavs last year and he isn't complaining now. thing is he knows he can still start if his number is called he still has elite ball-handling skills, he's a great passer as you seen the no look pass he threw while on the floor last night.

and he's always amongst the tops insteals.

@Cisco We'll see if BD is what you say he is, Lin is getting all the attention right now and if he keeps playing like he is alot of the PT as well...How then will Davis handle that? or if it will even matter, the guy gets hurt all the time.

The first thing I thought of was Allen Iverson when he was complaining about not starting however many years ago, I know that many people see Davis as a selfish player. Props to baron for having a championship be his primary goal.

The Heat try to recruit everybody. They must think they don't have enough to win a championship. For all the people that say he should have gone to Miami, how well did that work out for Mike Bibby last year? He gave up 6 million to have an up close view of them choking in the finals, then be dumped like a used tissue.
