Zeeland's Owen Stevens repeats as double state champ; West Ottawa relay wins title

Zeeland's Owen Stevens repeated as Division 1 state champion in the 200-yard individual medley on Saturday. The junior won the race in 1:49.68 and wasn't finished.

Stevens also repeated in the 500 freestyle, winning the state title in 4:27.48.

He helped Zeeland to a fifth-place finish in the state on Saturday at Oakland University with 136 points, one spot ahead of West Ottawa (125), which won the final relay.

Ann Arbor Pioneer won the title with 275, followed by Saline (245), Detroit Catholic Central (243.5) and Northville (226).

Zeeland's Owen Durham, Stevens, Fischer Sytsma and Ben Greshaw took second in the 200 medley relay (1:33.20), finishing behind Detroit Catholic Central (1:32.61).

Durham finished third in the 100 backstroke (50.88) and seventh in the 50 freestyle (21.25).

Durham, Gibson Meyering, Greshaw and Stevens took sixth in the 400 free relay (3:10.69).

Alex Figueroa, Gibson Meyering, Sytsma and Greshaw took 13th in the 200 free relay (1:29.61).

West Ottawa won the 400 freestyle relay as Luke Catton, Joseph Engle, Reese Jungblut and Brody Menghini earned the state title in 3:08.65.

Engle finished third in the 500 free (4:36.46) and fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:41.80). Teammate Luke Catton was 15th (1:46.60) in the 200 and 15th in the 500 free (4:51.64), behind teammate Grady Armstrong (4:51.45) and ahead of teammate Reese Jungblut (4:53.09).

In the 200 IM, Menghini finished 13th (1:58.99) and Owen Carlson was 13th (1:59.07). Menghini finished 14th in the 100 free (48.07) and Owen Jungblut was 15th (48.09). Carlson finished 14th in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.84).

Carlson, Owen Jungblut, Catton and Menghini took fifth in the 200 free relay (1:27.00).

Carlson, John Kuiper, Joseph Engle and Owen Jungblut took 15th in the 200 medley relay (1:37.89).

Other winners

Detroit Catholic Central's Luke Mychalowych won the 200 free (1:37.98).

Northville's Phillip Zhavoronkov won the 50 free in 20.65.

Rockford's Julian Cardenas won diving with 537.95 points.

Rochester's Lucas Hosch won the 100 butterfly (49.80).

Oxford's Olin Charnstrom took the 100 free in 45.03 and 100 backstroke (48.10).

Brighton's Luke Newcomb won the 100 breaststroke (54.56).
