Zach Ertz, Byron Murphy active for Cardinals; J.J. Watt, Trey McBride out

The Arizona Cardinals released their first inactive list of the year and there is a couple of surprises. Rookie tight end Trey McBride, the Cardinals’ top draft pick this year, will not suit up.

There is good news. Tight end Zach Ertz and cornerback Byron Murphy, both listed as questionable for the game on the final injury report of the week, are both active and will start.

Defensive end J.J. Watt (calf) and starting left guard Justin Pugh (neck), though, will not play. They are both inactive for the team’s Week 1 home game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The team’s full list of inactive players:

  • WR Rondale Moore

  • CB Trayvon Mullen

  • RB Keaontay Ingram

  • OLB Myjai Sanders

  • OL Justin Pugh

  • TE Trey McBride

  • DE J.J. Watt

Moore (hamstring), Mullen (toe), Pugh (neck) and Watt (calf) were all on the injury report.

The other three are rookies. It is no surprise to see Ingram inactive, as he is the team’s fifth running back. Sanders and McBride are a surprise.

With no McBride, the Cardinals will go with Ertz, Maxx Williams and Stephen Anderson as their tight ends for the game.

Sanders sits in favor of Markus Golden, Devon Kennard, Dennis Gardeck, Cameron Thomas and Victor Dimukeje at outside linebacker.

With Pugh out, Sean Harlow likely will start at left guard, although the team did just sign Max Garcia from the Giants’ practice squad on Saturday.
