YOUTH: Maplewood 12U Cal Ripken all stars earn berth at Eastern Mass. state tourney

FALL RIVER — It's on to the Eastern Massachusetts state tournament for the Maplewood 12U Cal Ripken youth all-stars.

The local all-stars recently won a pitcher's duel against Fairhaven-Acushnet Cal Ripken All Stars, 2-1, to capture the District 5 championship.

Wesley Araujo was the winning pitcher for Maplewood. He allowed just three hits and one run over 5.2 innings while striking out five.  Noah Cahoon threw a 1/3 of an inning in relief out of the bullpen to record the save. Maplewood pitchers allowed just three hits.

Collin Dayter, Cam Gauthier, Araujo, Grant Brisk and Camden Medeiris each had a hit to lead Maplewood 12U Cal Ripken All Stars.

The locals lit up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Brisk led the way with three stolen bases.
