YOUTH BASEBALL: Maplewood 9U All-Stars keep making memories on the diamond

FALL RIVER — It has been a fun summer to remember for the Maplewood 9U All-Star youth baseball team.

First, the Fall-River-based green and gold team captured the District 5 title to advance to the Eastern Massachusetts state tournament in Lowell.

Now, chalk up another one for youthful Maplewood squad.

The 9U team recently won five games, including the title game against Middleboro in dominating fashion to win the Taunton Silver City slugfest tournament.

During the five games, Maplewood outscored its opponents, 80-14.

In the championship game, the Fall River 9U team scored 10 runs in the first inning and cruised to an 18-3 victory over Middleboro.

Eli Cahoon earned the win for Maplewood, surrendering no hits and one run over two innings. He struck out two and walked one. Angelo August appeared in relief for Maplewood All Stars 9U.

Lincoln Valois started the inning for Fall River by drawing a walk that scored one run. Enzo Calvacanti followed with a single to score another run. Kyle Paradise (walk), Lucas Tavares (walk), Julien Moses (walk) and Keith Lobo Jr. each drew bases-loaded walks for RBI in the inning. Dayson Adediran contributed a two-run single while Enzo collected his second RBI of the game. Cahoon grounded out, scoring one run and Enzo singled to score one run.

Maplewood piled it on with eight runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning.

Moses (fielder's choice), Valois, and Rosario each had an RBI.

Enzo led Maplewood with two hits in three at bats. Julien, Enzo, and Dayson each drove in two runs. The 9U All-Stars drew nine walks for the game. Ashton and Lincoln led the team with two each. Eli stole two bases.

Maplewood punched its ticket to the final after beating Taunton West, 11-1.

Fall River scored six runs in the third inning and never looked back

August earned the win for Maplewood. The right-hander allowed just three hits and one run over three innings. He struck out three and walked two. On the season, August improved his record to 7-0. Valois threw one inning of no-run ball in relief. He gave up one hit and struck out one.

Adediran, Cahoon and Lincoln each collected two hits for Maplewood. Enzo had three runs batted in. Shepard stole two bases.
