Yankees, Marlins announce lineups for series opener in South Beach

The New York Yankees continue their nine-game road trip tonight with a three-game series against the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park that begins at 6:40 p.m. in South Beach.

With only a 10-14 record since the All-Star Break, the Yankees (59-56) find themselves in last place in the American League East and five games back of the final wild card spot in the AL. New York has not won a series since it swept the Kansas City Royals three weeks ago.

If the Bronx Bombers are to get on track, it has to be right now against the Marlins.

Coming out of the All-Star Break, Miami (60-56) has lost eight straight, been swept three times and only hold the final wild card position in the National League by half a game heading into Friday night's contest.

This afternoon, the Yankees named Ian Hamilton the starter for tonight. He'll likely just be used as an opener for an inning or two like he did in the series finale against the Chicago White Sox on Aug. 9. Hamilton's been a quality arm out of the bullpen for the Yanks with a 1.63 ERA this season. He's allowed just one earned run in his past 12 2/3 innings pitched. The only issue is Hamilton has as almost as many walks (5) as strikeouts (6) in three appearances this month.

For the Marlins, they'll have Jesus Luzardo on the mound. Despite being one of the bright spots in Miami's rotation, the 25-year-old left-hander struggled in his last outing. He surrendered three home runs after only giving up two homers in his previous seven starts.

Luzardo has been much better at LoanDepot Park in 2023 as he sports only a 2.64 ERA in 13 starts at home compared to a 4.85 ERA in 10 appearances on the road.

Here are the starting lineups for tonight's series opener:
